May Kayaking. Ed will be continuing to do his standard floats on the Lower Salt River throughout the spring and summer. As some of these trips may be announced on short notice by e-mail, please contact Ed if you are not already on his 2012 Kayakers Contact List. He will arrange places and times to meet. Those planning to take their own vehicles should be sure to pick up a Tonto daily pass ahead of time (see details in Ongoing Events below.) Ed
May 4th Musical Instrument Museum. Ed will be making a return visit to the Musical Instrument Museum at 4725 E. Mayo Blvd. (just south of Loop 101 at Tatum and Mayo Blvd.) Meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Pyle Center if interested in carpooling, or at 6:30 p.m. at the museum. Ticket prices are $15 for adults. Wed May 9th Regular SOC Meeting at the Pyle Adult Recreation Center 7:30 PM in the Yuma Room. Ed
May 19-20th See Canyon Homes Work Weekend. David and Pete will be heading up to their cabin in Christopher Creek for a weekend of work around the cabin and/or the common areas in the neighborhood. People can come up and just hang out or go hiking--they don't have to work. There will be a potluck dinner on Saturday night. Contact David or Pete if you would like to join them. David or Pete

ONGOING EVENTS

Week Day Hikes Day Hiking During the week. Every Tuesday morning and occasional Thursdays. For those Day Hikers who may have a day off during the week or who are retired or otherwise available to hike during the work week. Contact David or Charlie to hike with the "Idle Aristocracy" of the SOC. David or Charlie
Mountain Bike Rides Mountain Bike Rides. Wanda and Greg’s son-in-law, Bill, is coordinating mountain bike rides for Performance Bikes every Tuesday evening and Saturday morning, starting from the Warpaint Trailhead at South Mountain. The Tuesday night rides start at 6:00 p.m. and are geared for beginners, and the Saturday morning rides start at 8:00 a.m. and are intermediate level rides. A helmet and water are required for all riders; a spare tube and a pump are highly recommended. An energy bar or gel are recommended for the Saturday rides. Lighting systems, required for the night rides, will be available for sale. Contact Bill if interested. Bill
Canoeing & Kayaking Floating the Salt. Ed wants to float the Lower Salt on the weekends if there is any interest and sufficient water flow. Tube, kayak or canoe. Contact Ed if you're interested. You now need to purchase a Tonto Daily Pass ahead of time to park your vehicle at the river. See a description of the Tonto Pass at Passes & Permits. Please note that you do NOT need to purchase a separate watercraft sticker for a kayak or canoe. Purchase permits online at Tonto Passes or find a vendor near you to purchase the permit at Vendors. Vendors selling the permit should have a Tonto Pass sign in their front window. Ed

Occasional Thursdays. Scottsdale Art Walks. Occasionally meet at 7:00 PM in Old Town Scottsdale for a stroll around the galleries, enjoying the exhibits and goodies laid out. Ed, (480) 921-3821.
